The procedure begins with thorough local anaesthesia to ensure you’re completely comfortable. A rubber dam (a small protective sheet) is placed around the tooth to keep it clean and dry during treatment. Your dentist then creates a small access opening in the top of the tooth to reach the pulp chamber.
Using specialised instruments, the infected or inflamed pulp tissue is carefully removed from the chamber and root canals. The canals are then cleaned, shaped, and disinfected using antibacterial solutions. Once the canals are clean, they’re filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha and sealed. In most cases, the tooth will need a crown afterward to restore its full strength and function.
